Okay, so I have a problem. I collect books like most people change underwear. I can’t help myself. My love of books and reading goes all the way back to second grade when my mom realized I was reading anything I could get my hands on. Newspapers. Magazines. I would read through my Sunday school book before we’d even had the first lesson.

So Mom did the only thing she could. Every two weeks, she’d drive me to the public library in our small town and let me pick out enough books to last me until our next visit. Which was great until I read all of them and still had a week before she took me to the library again.

Maybe that’s why my TBR pile is so big, it would take me the rest of my life to make a dent in it. Between my ebooks and physical copies, I have over 4000 books. And I added to that stack this weekend when I went to the semi-annual sale by the Cobb County Library System.

I’d heard about this sale for years. My aunt devoted an entire room above her garage to store the books she’d find at the sale, then my cousins would post their finds on their Facebook page. I was green with jealousy–during this time, I’d had to get rid of most of my library because it cost too much to move it across the country. Over the past few years, the pandemic and deadlines have kept me from the sale.

Not this year! I marked the day on my schedule, made a budget of how much I wanted to spend, and pulled my rolling duffle bag out of the closet. My husband wasn’t sure what to make of me, but didn’t say much, only told me to have a good time.

Boy, did I! I filled up my duffle bag with 47 books. They’re not all for me. Some went to my grandsons and I bought two for my sister, but the majority are mine. I got a new cookbook as well as a book about quilting, but most of divided into research books and fiction. I even got one book-on-tape for the car.

Happy me! And it only cost me $55. Well, that and the cost of a new bookshelf!

By the way, the next Cobb County Library Book Sale is October 13-15!
