My boys. You’re still little boys at the moment, and you bring me such joy! Right now, I need it–your great-grandma has vascular dementia and is declining rapidly. Which is why I’m answering questions about myself for you. Dementia runs in my mother’s side of the family so I have no idea if my memory will be fading away by the time you want to know more about me. But I want you to know me from my point of view; who I was, what I did with my life. You may not care–you may just want to remember me as Nana–but if you do, you’ll have these posts to give you a glimpse into my life.

I love you more than either of you could possibly know.

Nana

Question: Describe using all five senses, your favorite day with your best friend.

I had several close friends growing up–Jennifer(who your mother was named after,) Jackie, and Wanda-who came over to visit many times after school during elementary school. A perfect day was early spring-I loved to play on my swingset so I’d want to share that with my friends. The scent of cut grass still lingered in the air after Daddy cut it the day before.

We would get off the bus in front of my house-I lived on Powder Springs Road next to my grandma and granddaddy (T. W. and Ruth Clark) and run up the long driveway to the house. Our house was small by today’s standards-two bedrooms and one bath but it was homey and wonderful.

Mom would have a snack waiting for us–usually Oreos and cherry Kool-Aid. Then we go outdoors. We had a huge backyard, close to an acre. My puppy, Spooky would greet us, jumping up on us, ready to play. We would chase each other around the yard, then settle into the swings. For the next hour, we’d swing and talk about what little girls talk about–school and Barbies.

No matter who came over, we always had a great time!
